The aim of the pilot is to test how children's centres can offer a more effective means of engaging parents in labour market activity, moving them closer to work, and ultimately into employment. A mixed-methods evaluation is in place to assess the impact of the pilot and explore experiences and perceptions of its implementation. Vacancies have also risen again, though they remain well below pre-recession levels. However, it is of serious concern that long-term unemployment has increased again to over three-quarters of a million. Urgent policy action is needed to support this group back into work to avoid the damaging long-term social impacts experienced in previous recessions.
